Majoring in Careers is a blog meant to help college students land the perfect internship, co-op or full-time position to jump-start their careers. As its creators, we don’t claim to be corporate gurus, masters of social interaction or experts in any other way. We are simply three fellow students that share a genuine interest in a subject matter most others find stressful and boring: the science of getting a job offer. We are continually researching the best strategies out there and putting them into practice in our own job searches to find out what works and what doesn’t.
Even though we are engineering students, Majoring in Careers is by no means geared towards securing a technical position. Through interviewing, reading and polling, we have made sure that the advice and experiences we share are relevant to anyone and everyone that plans to enter the corporate world. If our academic backgrounds are at all present in our content, it is only in our systematic approach to the task of getting a job offer, with the goal of rooting our points in reason and real-world examples rather than clichés and abstractions.
So whether you seek a discussion on interviewing, resume writing, thank you notes or any other facet of job-hunting, we have done our homework and the solutions are posted. Feel free to share your opinions of anything we write or describe some experiences of your own by communicating with us directly via the Contact tab above.
We hope Majoring in Careers can help you in starting your career off right, and we wish you the best of luck in doing so!

Eliot Baker
Eliot is a junior in Computer Engineering, originally from Chelteham, Pennsylvania. Although he is arguably in the wrong major, since a programming position may not be his ultimate career goal, Eliot finds himself investing large quantities of time in his programming assignments. As a recent side project, Eliot has launched Majoring in Careers with the two lucky guys listed below. He has interned as a software engineer for IBM and in the IT department of PREIT, and he is currently deciding between offers for next summer. In his less than abundant free time, Eliot enjoys rocking out to Guitar Hero, swinging a golf club, falling down the mountain on his snowboard, and just chillin’ with his buddies.
Matt McLure
Matt is a junior in Computer Engineering at Penn State University, originally from Shrewsbury, Massachusetts. When he is not busy with homework and this website, much of his time goes into running the Penn State Robotics Club, of which he is the President this year. Matt is currently in between his first and second co-op terms with Intel Corporation, where he is helping design microprocessors and learning a lot in the process. His free time is spent playing Frisbee, building robots, watching old sitcoms, and beating his roommates in video games and Jeopardy.
Wei Shi
Wei is a junior in Electrical Engineering at Penn State University, originally from China, 5 years ago. Current hometown is Las Vegas. He is the president of Pi Delta Psi Fraternity Penn State Colony this year. Wei is a smart and lazy guy, so he always prefer to seek the best shortcut to get things done. Out of Wei’s college life, a big part of his time is spent in socialing and chilling instead of finishing up his homework, but he still can always figure a way to get an A. He doesn’t like engineering but sadly he is good at it. Wei did a co-op with General Electric and an internship with General Motors, both company sent him returning offer but he is going to do another internship with Chevron the coming summer. For free time, he enjoys playing some basketball, golfing, and skiing. Also he always play “Munchkin” with the two best friends above, and always is the winner. Like Wei always says, Life is a game, play it hard with your heart!
