The next two articles are going to be a little more abstract, but still good regardless.
So you have a square peg. What do you do with it? No one seems to care. This is how many people see the world. What you need to figure out is what do with that square peg. You might try forcing it into a round hole, or maybe a triangular hole, you might not even find out where it goes. What you’re looking for is a solution to the problem. You are not just sitting there with a problem.
People need to find solutions to their problems. Specific ones. I’m not saying that there is a solution to every problem (though there is, you just might not like it.) I’m saying you need to think about problems in terms of solution. It’s hard, I know, you get so used to people listening to your whining. “It was totally unfair, I can’t believe the teacher marked my wrong answer wrong.” “I can’t believe the cop gave me an underage drinking citation just for peeing in a parking garage when I was drunk. - Yeah, I know what a jerk.”
Stuff happens. Make solutions, not problems. When you catch yourself complaining about not having a job, what have you done? It’s really possible to get an internship/co-op. People say it’s impossible and how unfair the process is, but really you just need to learn to play the game. Some people are better than others, but not liking it doesn’t change how it works.
Think of what you want and where you want to be, specifically. Complaining about how much of jerk the interviewer isn’t going to help you get a job; however focusing all your resources on finding the next interview will help you get a job. Try to BE SPECIFIC. It might not work out exactly as you plan, think about the square peg. I know I want that square peg to fit in the round hole. I try so hard to force it in, but it just doesn’t work. Maybe I was wrong, but now I know exactly what to try first when I want to fit into the square hole.
Make specific goals and work towards them instead of complaining about your current life situation. Even if your goals end up being round holes, it’s really just more practice for making the perfect fit.
